Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, with VOX Cinemas listing a UAE release on December 16. Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom, while Anthony and Joe Russo return to direct.

The film brings together characters from the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Wakanda, Thunderbolts and Talokan across multiple universes. The ensemble includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Florence Pugh, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

Avengers Doomsday cast brings several Marvel worlds together

Marvel Studios is preparing for one of its biggest releases in years as Avengers: Doomsday moves closer to cinemas.

The next Avengers film brings Robert Downey Jr. back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not as Tony Stark. This time, he plays Victor von Doom, better known as Doctor Doom.

Marvel has also brought Anthony and Joe Russo back to direct the film. The brothers previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

For viewers in the UAE, there is another reason to pay attention. VOX Cinemas currently lists Avengers: Doomsday for December 16, 2026, while Disney gives December 18 as the wider official release date. UAE ticket sales were announced in late September.

When is Avengers Doomsday releasing in the UAE?

Disney’s official release date for Avengers: Doomsday is December 18, 2026.

UAE moviegoers, however, are expected to see the film earlier. VOX Cinemas lists a December 16 UAE release and says the movie will be available in English with Arabic subtitles.

The UAE release comes during a busy December period for cinemas and gives Marvel fans in the country a chance to see the film before its official US opening.

Disney has also been promoting a new premium cinema standard called Infinity Vision, with Avengers: Doomsday positioned as one of the major films designed for the format.

Robert Downey Jr returns as Doctor Doom

The biggest talking point around Avengers: Doomsday remains Robert Downey Jr.’s return.

Downey spent more than a decade playing Tony Stark and Iron Man before the character’s story reached its emotional conclusion in Avengers: Endgame.

This time, Marvel has confirmed that he will play Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. The role was originally announced at San Diego Comic-Con, with Downey appearing on stage alongside the Russo brothers.

Marvel has not publicly explained every detail about how Doctor Doom fits into Downey’s previous MCU history. That unanswered question is likely to remain one of the film’s biggest talking points until audiences finally see it.

Avengers Doomsday cast brings several Marvel worlds together

The confirmed cast is huge.

Alongside Robert Downey Jr., the film includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Simu Liu, Letitia Wright and David Harbour.

Marvel is also bringing back several actors connected to the X-Men films, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer.

Fantastic Four actors Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are also part of the ensemble.

At D23 2026, Disney also confirmed Chris Evans as Steve Rogers and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter in the upcoming film.

What is Avengers Doomsday about?

Marvel is still keeping much of the story secret.

Disney’s official description says heroes from three different universes will be placed on a collision course as they face an existential threat.

Recent official updates have made the scale a little clearer. Disney says the story will bring together characters connected to the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wakanda, the Thunderbolts, Talokan and the X-Men.

The Russo brothers have also said that different narrative universes will collide and combine in the movie.

That makes Doomsday much bigger than a normal Avengers reunion. It is expected to connect different parts of Marvel’s film history that previously existed separately.

Avengers Endgame is helping set up Doomsday

Marvel has taken an unusual approach to preparing audiences for the film.

Avengers: Endgame returned to cinemas in September 2026 as Avengers Endgame: Encore. The re-release included new material and an exclusive look at Doomsday.

The Russo brothers said the new film’s story naturally led them back toward the events of Endgame.

For viewers who have not followed every Marvel series or film released since 2019, the Endgame re-release also works as a reminder of where the previous Avengers story ended.

Who is directing Avengers Doomsday?

Anthony and Joe Russo are directing Avengers: Doomsday, with Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Jonathan Schwartz producing.

Stephen McFeely is credited as the writer. He previously worked on several MCU films, including Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The Russo brothers are also connected to Avengers: Secret Wars, which is expected to continue the larger story after Doomsday.

Why Avengers Doomsday is becoming one of 2026’s biggest movie releases

There are several reasons the film is attracting so much attention.

Robert Downey Jr.’s return alone would make it a major Marvel event. Adding Chris Evans, the Fantastic Four, X-Men characters and several generations of MCU heroes makes the scale much larger.

The first signs of audience demand are already visible. In Australia, the film reportedly generated more than A$1 million in ticket presales during its first 24 hours, setting a strong local presale record.

For Marvel, Doomsday is also an important step toward the next phase of its connected universe.

For UAE audiences, the countdown is even slightly shorter.

If current cinema schedules remain unchanged, Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in UAE cinemas on December 16, 2026, two days before Disney’s official US release.
